The job market these days can be incredibly competitive. More and more people are out of work and the competition for remaining jobs is fierce. It is no longer always sufficient to have abilities and experience, frequently you will need extra credentials, often acquired through employee training programs, in order to beat out the competition and secure a new job or to keep your current one.

There are many types of, and situations in which employee training may occur. One of the most common types of employee training is "on the job" training. In this type of training the employee will often be paired up with a more experienced co-worker who teach the employee how to perform the job successfully. An example of this would be a student who is interning on a farm. He or she may receive on the job training in safe manure handling practices.

Another type of training is "in house" training. In this situation employees are trained within the company, usually by senior company members, but the training is not conducted while working, but rather in a separate workshop or seminar situation. A veterinarian clinic in London, Ontario might conduct in house training for its receptionists where they are taught the current way the company wishes for customers to be dealt with.

Sometimes employee training is outsourced. Your employer may instruct you to attend a training session to learn skills that are no already present within your company. For example, if you company is expanding and will soon be adding automatic strapping machines your company will need people who are trained how to use them. In this situation the company may choose to send certain individuals for specialized training in these machines.

Another type of employee training is self sought training. This means that the employee undertakes to gain additional training in order to further his or her career. A personal trainer in Toronto may choose to take a course that qualifies them to teach aerobics classes in order to further their career. It can be beneficial to seek out additional qualifications or training if you are looking for a new job or if you are hoping to get a raise or promotion.

Employee training is a lot like boat struts; training will strengthen your resume and your credentials and give you the skills needed to weather the employment storm. A well trained employee will rarely be unemployed or underemployed.
