Have you ever thought about buying a home in the upscale New York area, but realized that maybe what is available is beyond your means? To be sure, there are a lot of real estate options for those who make their homes in New York and nearby Connecticut, but this is also the area where some of the richest people in the world live. The average price on the market is not kind to a middle class worker.

Even in this trendy area, however, there are cities which offer good prices on a wide variety of real estate. Those with a Bridgeport zip code know this well. The state of Connecticut is one of the wealthiest, on average, in the United States. Buying a house there is like looking for real estate in Toronto; townhouses, rental condos, and apartments are about all the average family can afford.

However, thanks to several flukes of history and poor city management, Bridgeport is poised to become the next Big Thing as far as real estate is concerned. It boasts all the advantages other areas in Connecticut have, but at half the average price in real estate. In many ways, the Bridgeport market is akin to what you would have found with a Danforth home for sale a decade and a half ago. The market is depressed, but with comparative pricing in mind the picture is looking right up.

Part of the reason for the lower prices in Bridgeport is a refusal on the behalf of the city government and private landowners to move beyond the industrial past. Bridgeport was a major manufacturing center up until the 1960s, when production began to slow down. The city still has not recovered, but is finally making strides in that direction.

The last of the factories and plants standing on privately owned land are seeing their days numbered, as the city begins to buy out the parcels. Already, much of the industrial areas have been cleaned up, particularly along the waterfront. Today this area is home to some of the highest end houses in the community, many similar to upper class Mississauga real estate to the north.

As is the case with many of the older cities in North America, the industrial areas are being looked at as areas ripe for redevelopment. Old sewing machine factories and garment plants have the potential to be converted to dwellings similar to the printing factory lofts one finds in Toronto and New York.

Much of that redevelopment is already underway, giving a new feel to the real estate market within the city.

Single family, stand alone dwellings are still very much the norm here in Bridgeport. You will find the market in this area much the same as in cities such as Langley and Burlington. Homes for sale in Bridgeport, of course, are much less than similar houses in those cities, again due to the depressed nature of the real estate industry here.

If you are looking for an affordable home right in the heart of one of the trendiest counties in the United States, Bridgeport is worth a look. The market here stands to benefit from the progress made in the state and its neighbors, and there are several housing styles to choose from.
